Is that it for us? I hope the dissappointed soul finds something better next time around. Loved this poem.

Thank you, my friend, your words will stay with me. So happy to be here with you.
Doesn't bear thinking about. A hole, a coffin and a disappointed soul. When that earth hit that coffin I went into panic mode :) Thankfully we won't know until the time arrives. I wish I had a stronger faith :)

I was so there, in that hole, in that coffin, hearing that dirt hit. Very vivid. Using the first person for a dead protagonist has always appealed to me, as well. It becomes somewhat more intimate, like sharing vision or some other sensory experience. The question is, what becomes of the disappointed souls?

I believe that human bodies are comprised of an astronomical number of atoms. There is nothing forcing them to cling together other than the purpose of being that body, for that soul. For that time, until it dies. Then the atoms dissipate and the soul rests and reflects. When the soul is reborn, new atoms form a new body BUT each atom also has a memory. And some of the atoms are used in our body many times, so we have things like past life experiences.
I approve this message. It may be more true than some may want to believe unfortunately. I like this poem of yours my friend. It would make an awesome comic strip for a Sunday paper. Great work J.
We are suppose to have the Faith of a "mustard seed". I do have Faith in the Unseen. Everyone is born with a Spirit, and when we die, the Spirit leaves our Body. Where does it Go... Heaven only knows. Our Spirit is the Key to Eternal Life. When a Baby is born, the Spirit appears and is forever a Spirit until it's last Breath. Possibly our Spirit lives again in the Birth of a newborn. This is the Reasoning we are given. gently, Pat
Faith I think is different. Not so much in a religious sense...it is not necessary to sit in a pew to believe in a higher power, but just a feeling that there is something more.
Einstein said "energy can neither be created nor destroyed".
But Poe would have written about being buried alive and hearing the thud of dirt...
or the crackle of flames.
Something to think about my friend.
Good one j.
