generic hearts smile

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

generic hearts smile

before capitals were the rage

my lower-case verbiage

found solace in anonymity

when ubiquity

established me as just one heart

part

of the masses

another blade of the grasses

a lawn of equality

no one frond taller than the next

before capitals were the rage

and lower-case nouns

found extensive poverty

in being common

but exquisite happiness

as well

with no need for morning glories

donning their ivory towers

just a few verbs willing to help

out the semantics

for a meager tip.

Very interesting Jacob and again I think of ee cummings. I am on the wrong side of the Atlantic for this argument - and educated at the wrong University as well - but I do still like and respect 'lower case Poetry' if it is good, which clearly your's is ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

thank you for your kind words, red,

Without verbs... there is no progress...
Capital letters are Cymbals that perpetuate
a Song. The Conductor uses his Baton to
persuade the Cadence and the Mood. gently, Pat

I like that idea of the Cymbals...or maybe symbols...
they are, they are,

ee cummings is dead but his idiosyncratic syntax haunts the hallowed halls of Harvard...you can't write Harvard with a lower case letter...it's collegiate blasphemy. I enjoyed the read.

I remember in my youth when cursive was all the rage. My young eyes couldn't tell if it was capitol or lower case. I don't know if it's just me but what I have found strangely odd is that fact I can barely spell my name now a days. I've gotten so used to typing on keyboards I rarely ever use a pen or pencil. I had to fill out forms recently for my booster shot and was humorously surprised how bad my spelling was. I literally can't wait for the Bill Gates brain chip to arrive so I don't have to ever fuss with using a pen, pencil, or keyboard ever again. OMG I shouldn't say that out loud or it will become some new conspiracy theory. CLE

I think it already has...:)))
Thank you, Carlos,

delicious, thank you
it sort of has the feel of skipping a stone on water because each stanza reverberates on its own and yet remains part of the trajectory

thank you for your kind words, Amy,

Happy to use lower case. Hasn't always been my first choice but then I found someone who has influenced my writing in a positive way, so I changed:)Hate how some use capitals to shout. Awesome write J.

geez, who could that have been?
thank you, Chris,

what an awesome metaphor. i too like to write in all lowercase, and i too would like to desire nothing more than to be a blade of grass. i need to humble myself for that, so i commend you for already being there.
