the first and last frost

the first and last frost

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the first and last frost

in a maniacal fall

i wept

you were the turning leaf

expiring into cold ground

seasons envelop hearts

when friends find more comfort

letting go,

than painfully articulating

how to bear a winter's immaculate snow

reason is a tear

on a cheek

that lost its faith

humanity is a Titanic drop

drowning in frigid sorrow

i tried to catch you

but God's breeze

kept you just out of reach

now i sit by that tree

imagining what could have been

if the seasons were fair.

If the seasons were fair, an extremely haunting image Jacob. A universal sentiment if there ever was one.
