I want to be the global warming

to your glacier heart

so we can float with fluent

access to a current of love

I want to be the investment

you make that curbs

the spending of your tears

an account of fluid funds

with a happy balance

besetting the inflation of sorrow

I want to be the trigger

for a mass shooting of tenders

keeping your heart safe

against the perils of invasive torment

the bullet proof vest protecting

you from return fire

I want to be the sunshine in your coffee

when cream clouds configure

to disarray your proud manner

and incite uncertain fervor

when the fever breaks the back of temerity

I want to be the teachings

of a philosophy of acceptance

and trust

that you might garner

if you allow me

to stand next to you

into future fitful bliss.

Your work is always ripe with metaphor and this one is positively juicy. I'm not so sure that a philosophy of "acceptance" is always best though. Some things we should not accept. After all, if we accept the status quo, we cannot ever expect to effect change or make things better. The same goes for accepting others. Some are worthy of our respect and trust but certainly not all. The criminal, the murderer, the rapist and those that wantonly destroy lives by their careless and callous actions without remorse or regret; those I refuse to respect or accept. I feel as Kipling wrote in his poem, "If" that all people count with me but none too much. We must by logic allow for their actions and circumstance and not go just blindly "accepting" any sort of behavior or character. Of course, that's my own personal philosophy and not one very well understood in today's social climate. Why, if you say something might not be "acceptable", you're automatically labeled a racist or some other horrible epithet by the masses of those claiming to abhor the same judgement they so eagerly dole out. At any rate, your poem was an enjoyable read. Hope your Labor Day weekend is off to a good start, my friend. Bless, F.

Very creative mixing of current events and relationships in this one. I would never have thought of using mass shootings as a symbol of tenderness. I might, however, have considered inflation regarding Mr. Trump's ego.
