a look deep

a look deep

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a look deep

my poems

don't understand me

they are confused by my sad countenance

even as I am chuckling loudly

over life

my poems

are troubled by my recklessly mundane

existence

the path worn

scenic but same

my poems

hint of something inside trying to get out

but I am baffled by their treachery

giving away the secrets

I don't want to share

my poems

find their way to the page

with or without me

giving them passage

even as I am chuckling loudly

they write me

when I least expect it

I am taken aback

by the affront

do you see my poems?

they won't let me,

perhaps they let you?

turn away if they are too personal

I can only advise

not steer

your attention

to or from my poems.

Can't turn away ... from a train wreck. Or a beautiful unique snowflake. I do see your poems. They've made me scratch my head. They've surprised me. They've inspired me. Made me laugh, but as of yet, not cry. This made me think of our relationship with our poems, so much like those with people. Friends and enemies of words. Mooches of time. Lovers that leave us spent. Counselors and agitators. Another excellent poem!

You are welcome Jacob.
"my poems // find their way to the page // with or without me". I find that, too, and wonder about my sanity. Yet it makes eminent sense. I did wonder about one of my own a few days ago, and took it down. I've kept in in store, in case I decide to give it another go. First time I've done that. But it's so true what you say here. You can find your mind doing things, and you later look at what has happened and find yourself wondering. Whew! It can be mind-blowing.

Poems sometimes originate from the deep recesses of the mind revealing something about ourselves particularly if you are a serious, or talented writer, and if you have nothing to write like me that shows too sending reviewers running for cover. lol. They are a gateway, a deterrent or a reader’s magnet. Nice write J.

That is so true, llike memories you have hidden try to muscle in on your thoughts .....
My poems only seem to surface when i am asleep and mostly forgotten by morning after they they have woken me up with their nagging.

Words will flow in many different ways, especially like the words my poems find their way to the page with or without me.Giving them passage even as I am chuckling loudly ;-} Words will always find a way to come through. Wonderful thoughts.

I am drawn to the far away look in your eyes...
as though there were songs to be composed...
if only you played in an orchestrated world...

‘my poems, hint of something inside trying to get out’ I love this line. It sums up such a feeling and your whole poem just flows so well. When I first started writing, really writing poetry, I was struck by just how much it wrote itself and I was basically writing things I never planned to, telling stories I thought I’d take to my grave. Poetry is so much like a person- some days, it writes itself, some days it ignores you entirely. And some days you’re completely engulfed in it. I loved these very relatable and strong poem. It spoke to me and made me think. Thank you for sharing.
