When Gasoline was Cheaper than Typing paper

When Gasoline was Cheaper than Typing paper

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

When Gasoline was Cheaper than Typing paper

I wanted to be a poet

since I could hold a pen

but ended up wielding a shovel

digging for oil leaks

instead of editing and rewriting

poems

found the leaks, sooner or later

wrote a poem, sooner or later

the pipe fitters perused what I wrote

sighed

then fixed the hole

in my soul

but it still leaked

with words

that had nowhere

to flow.

Like water seeking a hole
words of a poet will find a way to leak out
whether or not anyone sops them up in another question.

I have arrived with a mop and bucket.

Good one j.

You you have words and can not put them to paper....it is a terrible feeling. So painful.
Another good write.

yes, so painful...why is it that as poets, it is so much easier to write sad than happy?

I'm not sure... I'm pretty sure I've done both.
You are very welcome, jacob.
What did you write with the shovel? Or, like me, you can pour the words into the hole you just dug and add a little gasoline and a match. Someday maybe I'll write something equal to what I read - but I'm beginning to think Mary Oliver was right: poets are born.

The oil tank seems to be holding its own,/ the typewriter still bleeding the ink on the page,/ in metaphor brilliant and second to none,/ surely there's hope for the poetic sage. Carry on my dear poet friend, I'm still listening. F.

It's crazy how gas became so expensive right? It used to be that gas was cheap but not it sky-rocketed. Where I heard on the news that people steal the gas out of other peoples car, it's crazy. People don't pay for gas at the stations too. Look at what the world's become. Thanks you for sharing!

Frustration .... So now those words have found a channel into which they can flow freely and be shared all over the world to like minded people...
