The impression is she has moved on. Perhaps that rustic setting was just an interlude, a temporary getaway. She is at heart a big city girl, however she might have presented herself in the days of yore. Another learning experience here.
Enjoyed this one, J. I, too, have some photos. I did live on a farm here in West Wales, UK; at the moment I live in a town called Carmarthen (also West Wales), and look back on the farm. Hm . . .!

Those were my favorite days of my life.
thank you, Andrew,

This is a movie quality scene you have played out here Jacob. Its memories and forward momentum and snapshots of what got us there. That last stanza is really good and the last lined seperated works extremely well. Yummy!
perusing old photos and remembering bittersweet times with your loved one... its seemed like she was a sometimes person, not recognizing you in certain places, building a fence between you... only certain of those memories were joyous....others were hurtful. This seems very personal J.
Nice write!

J., this is quite the trip into around and back out of memory. It is fascinating to as always to see how you use diction in surprising ways. I really liked this one.

Dear J, I am loving this beautiful poem. This is not your muse talking, it is you. Go with it. Such wonderful memories and imagery coming from the innocence of Vermont in that photo in comparison to city living with all its barriers. The city can be so lonely. I see a boy in a photograph.
