Conversation notwithstanding

Conversation notwithstanding

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Conversation notwithstanding

you gave me that Lolita smile,

in your Lana Turner state of drink

and I almost fell from my flirting chair

wobbly legs I needed not,

for I was not standing,

nor was I in good stead

with my moral compass

which was aimed so south

I could see cotton fields from days of old

and in my days of old,

a wink could drop me in my tracks,

I might ask directions,

but the fall will kill me, so

I needn't a map to Hades

I heard they have a big dog there,

wonder if it is friendly.

Meanwhile,

I wish you would quit smiling at me

your eyes have me so intoxicated

my face will greet the table, soon.

What a great scene you’ve created and it’s playing out on our computer screen instead of the movie screen. Very descriptive and great imagery. Such an entertaining read. Temp

I like the mention of Lolita's smile
and the Lana Turner drink ..what
a combo ..no man could escape
such flirtation without flirting back
and of course become intoxicated
great ending ..enjoyed reading

thank you for your kind words, Fran,

As I recall, that big dog had three heads. On top of that, his father was a snake who also had three heads. There were also other multi-headed relatives. Genetics can really suck. Hope you didn't hook up with the Lolita smile chick. The only thing they want from old guys is green.

I did enjoy the night you described. I had a few Jacob.
"I could see cotton fields from days of old

I loved the above lines. Sometime those lovely ladies may give us some bad directions. Thank you for sharing the entertaining poetry.

I agree Jacob and you are welcome.
I could barely handle the startling face and figure in my flirting chair…as I am aging quickly ( heading South) losing my height and probably my mind…as I think back to the old days when a simple wink would make my heart flutter….I can’t take this smile anymore, I might fall off my chair.
I love this little scene, so we’ll crafted and with humor entwined in it.
Best, B

There is life in the old dog yet :) J, I found this poem a delight and such fun to read. Some great lines. Your stanza about the dog in Hades is so amusing. A light hearted look at aging and how a but of flirting can inject a whole lot of something into the equation :)

Thank you for your understanding review, Chris...ah, Flirting, yes...so much fun.

What a telling poem about how the flirtations of an attractive woman can lead us so happily astray, even when we are of advanced age. “I could see cotton fields from days of old” was very suggestive. Or is my mind just finding erotic references where there are none? I really enjoyed this one, as I can completely relate.
