Suits and Sad Serenades

Suits and Sad Serenades

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Suits and Sad Serenades

I have far too many cliffhangers

in my heart's closet

nothing fit right,

goodwill was an option

but I couldn't bear

to part

not knowing the endings

and then they came toppling down on me

my closet emptied at once

so, I packed what I could fit

into my straight jacket

and wandered into destiny

with just what I could carry,

so many memories

they wouldn't let me on the flight

to anywhere,

so I sat somewhere

until where became how became why

became a purpose for receding

from that cliff

and keeping my balance

out in the open.

What great story telling, in a few lines you brought me through a story ripe with complex emotions, it is the poet who can paint thusly with words. If anyone should have a business card which reads only "Poet", you are he, mine reads "Clumsy Language Mangler". This poem encapsulates a period pregnant with change and captures the anxiety therein, that's my reading anyway.
Thanks for this contribution.

I really like your take on this one, Trice,
thank you,
j.
Choices and choices of cliffhangers. That makes for lots and lots of balancing. If there be a loose fit straight jacket that would pack so much more memories to carry around. Thoroughly enjoying this poem, j. Thanks for sharing.
