Over Easy

Over Easy

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

 Over Easy

Brooklyn eccentricities

woman with auburn locks

predisposed to a white line or two

a lover or two

heart infested with harsh memories

a father who bent the rules

emotions turned into a corpse

a headstone with magnetic blue eyes

she walks ahead

a hand to hold hidden in a coat pocket

safe,

tears behind bars

she will not set them free

and that ties her to a cell

maybe another white line or two

and then a solo drive to anywhere

west

and a new state of acceptance

of herself,

where she can dance pirouettes

in April

and forget old men

who eat bullets

as they drink wine for breakfast.

This is going to take more time to digest, the last lines, "and forget old men /// who eat bullets /// as they drink wine for breakfast" could be the reason. :) --- I'll Be Back!

Those last couple lines are beautiful and brutal. Raw emotions creeping up the spine Jacob. Trying to get out from the gutter where someone dropped you off. Drowning in decisions. Nice work.

Almost had to pass this one up. Major triggers here. But these evils need a voice, and the innocent victims need justice. Your poem portrays such a difficult topic. Interesting wording "she will not set them free." Forgiveness and accountability are two different things. Your story flows into " A new state of acceptance" which to me, shows forgiveness. Or at least, a willingness to accept the past and leave it behind. That is always the hope in this very imperfect world. Everyone should Pirouette in Spring :-) Hard write to read, but you certainly conveyed your story. Well done.

Thank you for your very kind words, Susan,

poignant and worthwhile says i! the story of thousands of women beaten and then beaten again by life choices and escape ... simply too much pain ... unable to reconcile ... the white powder is a mass murderer that parades as just one sad lost soul ... sometimes i wish we literally would send our armies against them ... once and for all ... destroy the fields, the "barons" the "troops" ... but of course that will never happen as the corruption illegal drug use and sales brings tears at the fabric of humanity .. V4 hit me like a sledge hammer, jacob ... your poem sends me to my prayer closet ... at least i can pray :(

Ah those harsh memories, softened by the white lines. Such story telling here J. Some people have such an awful existence. Who can blame them for moving on to try somewhere else where maybe for a while they can find a little joy before the whole sordid cycle starts again.
