Shame

Shame

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

.

Shame
anonymous poems
can't hide me from myself
and the pen that has betrayed me
I cannot own up to the debt
of conscience
I am blinded by my own ink
but still hear the splash on the page
it comes from deep inside
what used to be my pride.

Please retain the pride to balance out the shame - both of which, I believe, are often part of the urge to put ink on paper in a poem. One allows us the chutzpah to write at all (some kind of pride), and the other (a kind of shame) allows us to be quite human, which makes our work accessible. Yours is always accessible and will often hit a 'home run' - right to the revelations and inspirations you make available for others. This one describes that process in a very personal and true way. And there's always the time we spend altering the ink in an attempt at clarity and honesty; hopefull well done. This one is, as usual, well done. (:

Maybe you could set up an anonymous profile to post those shameful words you write.

aww, it's okay Cilberto. Shame is insecurity resulted by mean peeps who try to demean you,
I go through sometimes shame. But understand shame doesn't mean you did something wrong and regret, neccessarly, but also it can be the rude awakening of spilled milk! great Read! :D

most welcome Cilberto
Excellent Work JE-C and shades of the Bard of Avon himself with this interior monologue - very resonant and interesting that you refer to the 'ink' with which Poetry is written - almost like blood or tears.

"I am blinded by my own ink"
J, your intriguing title and words can have so many interpretations. Philosophical food for thought here. My take is that poets may "splash" surface emotions/feelings onto a page, but hide deeper recesses of 'shame' that remain hidden even to ourselves, anonymous, guarded. Sometimes though, they get through and tears of that shame blind/betray us. ? Well, I tried:)). Cheers for your cloaked and pondered message!

pretty spot on insight, Annette,
thank you for your kind review,

dearest Jacob... since some Heads of State are "off their Rockers" and Insane... how can we write Poetry that would Heal and soothe our fellowmen. I want to bring Cheer and Goodwill; however, I can only make a Splash of Tears. Your Poetry is a reflection of our feelings when the World is in Danger. fondly, Pat

My pleasure :)
I love your poets wit.
Maybe my dear friend it's time to get you a new pen.
:) and fresh paper.

I wonder if that is like putting a new patch on an old wine skin.
Better leave good enough alone.
I does seem a mood follows a writer like the seasons hope, passion, restlessness, quite reflection.

It's interesting the changes our writing goes through.
It's a shame one has to remain anonymous in fear of ridicule but never from such an expert on poetry manufacture. But no shame in trying something new and some like the anonymity.
