A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

tangled line

waiting for grief to abate

is like waiting for a scavenger fish

to take a bait

and swim away with our sorrow

so that we may be left alone

to tread the water of our tears...

I get the sense of suspension in time, above the water... Beautiful rendering.

Oooh. So true, in a grand metaphor that is actually a statement of emotion. There are so many 'stages of grief' that it sometimes feels as if we'll never be done with it: we hope anything will take it away while we're still swimming in it. This is very good poetry!

Some deep sorrow here. Greif is a hard thing to go through and your poem has that emotion in it.

My pleasure!
Powerful and honest thoughts shared Jacob. When old places, when old faces reappear. Can create sadness. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

You are welcome Jacob.
Regretfully, grief abates only on its own terms and cannot be forced. We can only let it be what it is and allow it to find the door at its own pace.

Excellent image.
But all too true.
Where tears are our median of transportation. Carrying us along.

Wow... this is so beautiful... we have spent hours fishing on the Shenandoah River and never caught a Fish, but lost a number of antique Lures in the hanging branches of the old trees on the Riverside when casting. Perhaps we should have been in a Boat to cast our Bread upon the Waters. However, whenever, we took my ten year-old daughter with us... she immediately caught lovely Sunfish and let them off the Hook. The secrets of the Youth. Be blessed. gently, Pat

I have lost enough lures to those branches, myself.
and yes, the secrets of youth. Thank you.. read more
