How sad to have a "nothing world" in a world full of miracles, color and life. But it would most certainly mean death to a poet. This seems almost like a description of Alzheimer's; my most feared and dreaded of all human nemeses. Nothing is so horrifying to me as the thought of losing my mind, my memories and my soul to that vicious robber of senses. Your portrayal is painfully realistic. Wonderful writing as always. F.
Jacob, this was Beautifully written, but sad too if that makes sense! I Took care of my grand ma and then an aunt that had this awful dementia! Your poem was spot on!

(he knew me, sort of acknowledged me proudly then stared out the window at his nothing world.) The day I visited Mom in the nursing home and she didn't know me.....was the worst day of my life. It is such a sad thing when ones' body outlives their brain. You've written these emotions well Jacob. ~Sharon

we lose them before we lose them,
thank you, Sharon,

a poor soul, suffering mentally; desperate to say something meaningful, to write something to be something; your words are perfect for this setting, especially the last line. Time means nothing to those who may suffer from dementia or similar. My mother suffered and her world was colorless, except when she hallucinated, which in itself is so sad.Excellent write on an important matter.
Best, B
