Mother

Mother

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto
"

today would have been her 100th birthday.

"
Mother
morning of
thoughtful persuasions
your eyes open again
signal me onward
one hundred years ago
a womb spoke,
a mother born to a mother
who had been born to another
mother and so on
until the arrival of a poet
basking in the afterbirth of love
and words
and a cold shoulder
of unfortunate circumstance
she was as much love
as a banished heart
would allow
in poetry, years pass
one hundred ago
one was born for another to be born
a womb spoke
birthed on syllables of longing
just for a nip of love
just enough,
to take the extended trip
toward a today
without her
as writing births more writing
and a father waits for the news.

Our mothers loom as the tallest figures in our lives. Along side our fathers of course. And for a poet more then most.
Mothers are the ones, typically, to read to us and give us our first taste of literature. Mothers teach us the heart.
A beautiful tribute, J.

This is great Jacob. It speaks to of hoe Poetry has developed and change over the years from generation to generation. We may not write likee they did but we carry on a great tradition.

Gee
Every birthday once they have passed is a poignant, reflective time, today even more so for you Jscob.
My thoughts are with you and a smile too at the thought of your mum looking proudly down on her kind, giving, gifted son :))
