inspired by Jamila's poem Cliché Day

May I assist you?

 

 

 

I was a bit too cliché

and walked into a pretentious store

with a slangy expression

on my noggin'

 

looking to update my word-robe

but they were too expensive

couldn't afford the bread

and their choice of wording was rather stale at that

 

so I beat it

thanked my lucky stars

my vocabulary was hip enough for me

and ambled vicariously to another establishment

 

just to peruse their embellished line

of savory semantical splendor

cracking a smile

then got out of there like a bat out of hell.

I've seen what passes for poetry in my local bookstores. Disappointing. One sentence and they call it poetry?
They're books by so called "instapoets." There's some of those semantics for you.
Well, anyway, enjoyed the wry humor. Well observed.

Sometimes two words can be poetry...one of my colleagues in the English department wrote a poem. Here it is:
"Butterfly, flutter by"---I always thought that was cool...
but yes, these days poetry does come in so many forms...and not so much the traditional.
