Like almost everything in life, love can be a teacher. The lessons, however, seem to come with a greater degree of pain of the emotional sort than anything else. Usually, alcohol gets involved. In fact, if you removed songs about drinking away lost love, country music's catalogue would probably be reduced by at least half.

I am glad you could relate in some way, Lisa...thank you, that means a lot to this writer.

loved the part about the ice melting. it is a difficult course to pass - love. an apple for the teacher and some apple brandy for this student. perhaps is better to take the course as survey. i doubt anyone would fall asleep in this class and tissues would have to be handed out along with the lessons and textbook. the field trips sure would be interesting ... :)

This was great!! And your meaning so clear in your metaphor in this. The idea of us all with whatever we write on as our notes on life. Thinking there may be a test if someone reads those notes. I'll have to give you an A on this poem!
Lots of headaches but no answers in a bottle. Whiskey is just a temporary pain killer that leads to permanent misery. Our misplaced faith and expectations often lead to disappointment and regret. What to do, what to do? The only lessons I've learned from love are hard work, responsibility and sacrifice. You'll not find too many so called "lovers" wanting to "fall" into that. It's so easy to become disillusioned with hearts and flowers and baby cherubs waiting to shoot you with their bows. But alas, Valentine's Day remains and sometimes the arrows end up in our backsides instead of our hearts. Great writing as always, my friend. Keep trying for the "Honor Roll".

The below lines. I know.
"as I earn my degree to
understanding life
awards no diploma
just a few poems
to save, like notes
from a class
on
drinking away the tempests
that occur,
when love is the teacher"
Jacob, love lessons, never ending. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.
