"That'll be the day that I die." Or the way Don McClean penned it in American Pie, the day the music died. So sad. Another great loss was Patsy Cline 4 years later. I still play her music on CD in the car. Great write Jacob.

I had Buddy's music on 45's as they came out back in the fifties...and I have a Patsy Cline CD of her greatest hits that I have nearly worn out...and I am not really a country fan...she is one of the exceptions.
what a voice...I liked Gogi Grant's voice too, especially Wayward Wind.
thank you, Fabian...so haunting in the Buddy Holly Story how they depict his last concert and then put up on the screen about how he died later that night.
what a genius, musically...and only 22...
I do love the old songs. I use to write.
"a cold winter night
played on my '45
endlessly
the turntable of my heart"
I liked the above lines Jacob. Old songs, old memories and old faces. The poet's wealth. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

"Peggy Sue, I love you." Simplistic lyrics, but they charmed a generation. I think the names of entertainers who died in light plane crashes would make quite a list. Fortunately, that day Waylon Jennings didn't make that list.

Yes, giving up his seat for Ritchie Valens...
thank you, John,

Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, The Big Bopper. I was only 6 when that crash took their lives. Yes, their music lives on and, of course, plays best on the vinyl 45! Lydi**

At least the seed of music is still springing up in those forgotten cornfields. Music and sound can sound so familiar and fresh when heard after a long time. The older the better to some people. Excellent brevity sir Jacob.

Some things will always hunt us, spinning our hearts no matter how much time passes, a scent, a scene... but always music that has the most profound affect on our hearts. they say music is the food of the soul, I say too, music is the air of the heart.

Music, especially rock...has been my soundtrack...

Don McClean also memorialized this moment so hauntingly as you have J in the lyric:
"But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died" from the classic song American Pie. That day profoundly changed music forever. Thank you for sharing this poetic moment with us.
