It's a sad social commentary on the state of mental health in our nation when it isn't just guns and drugs and pedophiles we have to protect the children from but also from those charged with the duty of their protection and growth. A moving write.
A moving poem love the metaphor (pleural) and the tragedy of child abuse and even worse the satanic ritual abuse of children which is coming out now I’m so shocked at

so much of it...sickening...
thank you for your compassionate words, Julie,

It is brutally sad when parents are abusive to children...or to each other. Children carry the scars throughout their lives even if they do learn to laugh again. Child services can only do so much. Written with such compassion. Wonderful. Lydi**

Oh, wow, is this ever an emotionally poignant write......
It's nice to know that the children got to have the last laugh.
Those children deserve to laugh.

Such a painful subject and one that NEVER is given enough light. I thank you for shedding some here. People want to sweep these issues under the rug, hide them in closets as to not distress their tiny minds and we should not let them. As writers it is our responsibility, I believe. Excellent writing my friend!

Such a ton of meaning behind those words. Reminded me of listening to arguments between parents while huddled in the bedroom. Actors acting their act. Captive audience captivated by the captured tragedy. Captured in our memories. And I like the uplifting end. There is a voice of assistance ready to help if the children can just get to it. Or it get to them. This is very poignant.

And they think we don't hear them...

Using the theater as symbolic of abusive homes is very appropriate, for such homes feature ongoing scenes of drama. Sometimes the children of these situations turn out all right, as the poem suggests. On the other hand, sometimes they become serial killers.
Children have little or no say in what happens to them. There are alot of truly awful parents around. It is a sad situation that some children have to endure such circumstances. As for child services, they don't always get it right and children can suffer even more as a result of their involvement. We have had some horrendous cases over here as a result of lockdowns.
