Back Prints

find me a rhythm

to the snow of youth

and the tropics of seniority

the gait is slower

but the rhymes still have some passion

only in a drift

of yesterday's dreams.

The snow of youth was great fun from sleds to snowball fights. The cold of my latter years makes my bursitis ache. I try to imagine I'm on a tropical island eating conch salad sandwiches with hot sauce and drinking pineapple fruit punch. Yesterday's Wine was a song by Willie Nelson I always liked. Yesterday's wine isn't so bad.

today's is a bit over-fermented I think.
thanks, Fabian,

We are still the people we were "back in the day". Perhaps we dance a bit slower, but we still are the same people with the same thoughts, desires, and needs. Yesterday we didn't just have to dream. Now we do! Always love your poetry, Jacob. Lydi**

Beautiful and strong words Jacob. You wrote a handful of meaningful thoughts. Youth, the sweetest wine. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

You are welcome, Jacob.
The gait is indeed slower. If you get your passion from yesterday's dreams, so be it. As long as someone's still minding the boiler room, you're OK.

I really like that visual...drifts of dreams!! I believe the tropics of seniority are in Florida. This poem really does have a nice rhythm. Short. Sweet. Packs a bunch in a little punch! Nice

the tropics of seniority

There is still passion in the winter of our years. It's not all wasted on the youth of the day.

I saw footprints in the snow. I felt someone retracing their journey. This little piece of brevity says a great deal J.

"....the snow of youth" ... oh man! so many ways to take that, jacob ... snow job ... vitality to withstand those winter storms and love it ... i can only speak for myself but ... most definitely a bit of snow blindness ... and "Back Prints" ... still thinking about that image ... trying to see it ... prints moving forward and I'm looking back ... or more like back tracking the past .. yep ... at an age .. we life review a lot .. maybe savoring those stronger felt passions to keep some flames ignited in aged embers ... its a good time says i .. a reflective time .. all the opposites balancing out somehow .. in that crazy rhythm ... i'm up early as usual .. it's barely passed 2 AM and already had my coffee .. this is the first read for me today ... makes me feel not so alone ;) love, peace and flowers sir!

Snow doesn't always
snuff out the fire ..
the rhythm may be off
a tad but rhyme still
finds a reason..nice work

thank you for your words, Pat,

Most people would associate snow and winter with age, and tropics with youth. I see that you switched the two up.
Passion beats gait anyday though. It's quality over quantity, right! The youth may be quicker, but age teaches you how to be better.
