They, We, Us, me...

They, We, Us, me...

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

They, We, Us, me...

enablers,

thieves to our well-being

all things being equal

we adore them

as they implore us

to continue our quest

for banishment of our senses

garnishment of sound decisions

nourishment of lavishly lame behavior

friends to the clothed eye

but to the naked one

blind spots shielding welfare

we have been sated

filled up with fantasy

we portray the fool

they applaud

extol our lost virtue

climb the stage

to celebrate

our performance

in deterioration

I bow sheepishly

sign autographs

disappear from the limelight

a one-act catastrophe

they loved

in my worst moments.

The best part about weekends is coffee, bed and these poetic stuff. Great content Jacob. I really enjoy your writes, they are so touchy, meaningful and relatable.

Well wow, yes! Now whoever can’t relate needs to reevaluate their lives, which I constantly do but this write humbles me.

You are welcome, jacob.
Jacob, I had to read this one three times before leaving a comment. Your words hit home for me on several different levels due to things that I chalk up to "life". I won't go into the boring details of my dysfunction, but instead just say, thank you. Your words have made a difference. Julie

dear Jacob… I think of the Western Movie “Stage Coach” with John Wayne.. Many people help others on their broken paths… We are Enablers of the Heart and Soul… Amen

This poem feels huge, cinematic even and a punch to the gut! Every word is powerful and fits perfectly with everything else. You describe everything amazingly here, and enablers in of themselves. ‘A one act catastrophe they loved in my worst moments’ may be my favorite line of yours written, just ever. It’s one of those lines that just takes you aback and you reread it and are blown away all over again. Thank you so, so much for sharing this piece!

thank you for your very kind review, Colacat,

I often stare in awe at people that find so much meaning in other's arrangement of words, even when I just KNOW that it wasn't what the author was speaking toward. But who am I to argue semantics? So many argue Shakespeare to this day with AUTHORITY and certainty... nuff said.

On this one Jacob, the last stanza was downright "definitive" to me.

In our world. Seem the fools are in control. I liked the flow of thoughts leading to the strong ending. People do enjoy the fall of greatness. Thank you Jacob for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.
