Inclusive Canopy

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Inclusive Canopy

sky blue

sky gray decals

of clouds like God's bumper stickers

saying "My children are honor students of life"

we tailgate,

we fly

we inch closer

to that sky

motoring past nostalgic scenery

a flash of ourselves

out the window of what if's

the blur of brevity

as time makes our souls drag race

down a straightaway of teachings

a church of mindful signals

turning left, right

up, down

sky blue

sky gray

was yesterday

today the color is

black and yellow and matters

because the filaments

of love

see through all our hearts

in one hue of acceptance.

Poetry captures the blur of brevity and allows us to study the colors of acceptance. Great poem!

Hi Jacob, underneath the sky we are ever moving forward through our lives. The years pass so quickly and we inch closer to that sky. Each day the changes come to our lives but we still move forward. This is like a drive through life, my friend. I love the content of another wonderful write from your pen. Have a wonderful Saturday....Mike.

Blue, Gray, black, yellow describes to me as a bumble bee getting ready for something to sting. I guess it is in how we see things. I enjoyed this write Jacob, very well written and said.

That’s wonderful, I loved the third stanza, this describes my thoughts during my drives, if only we actually did love and accept without judgment, what a heaven!

Some first class use of word choice and free verse meter. You are brilliant pen. There is no doubt about that:)

Your poem feels like a mish-mash of ever-changing possibilities, which is what it's like to embrace diversity (((HUGS)))

Under the canopy of the sky everything is seen. A wonderful reflective trip down through the passage of time. A journey of experience and learning that we all go on before we depart. But then I read about the colours of today, black and yellow and they reminded me of bruises and left me thinking that not all is a bed of roses. Life today is not a bed of roses for so many.

"Motoring past nostalgic scenery" really captured my imagination, making my eyes reverse and read again, imagining all those sudden drives past almost forgotten memories, slamming on the brakes for a better look and the utter disappointment of not seeing our younger selves at play, making the so much noise that kids make and wondering how quieter it seems these days.
I honestly thought I could hear the locals sigh, as they took down their for sale signs and had an impromptu street party.
My, did their faces fall when I rocked up half an hour later, after moving to the next street. The looks on their faces was priceless 😊
