fire arms,

bullet tongue

laugh the shrapnel

into oblivion

take a place on the death chart

casualties happen

it's only a war of attrition

and the battlefield is amour

Love is a battlefield.. and everyone walks around with hidden wounds... like you once said... passion suicide. Is it worth it anymore? Who knows. How do we know who has the biggest wounds and holes in their chest from another soldier. It's really just war. Thank you for this outstanding piece of writing. Makes me wish I could've been born back then, where love reigned authentic a majority of the time...
Amazing, as always.

Thank you, marina, your words mean a lot to me.

I see this as a bad love, or a sad one in which happened. Well expressed emotions.

spot on, Kimmie...thank you,

Which is why I abstain from romantic entanglements. They aren't worth the wounds and the never ending episodes of PTSD. All may be fair in love and war, but, as you expressed here, both leave so many bodies laying around.

I am at that point as well...thank you, Zoe,

Romantic love and war aren't all that different. In both, battles can be frequent, and sometimes no prisoners are taken.

True...thank you, John,

The battlefield is amour: I hear
Pat Benatar singing "heartache
to heartache "love is a battlefield"
like the esthetic quality of this write
although I can see where some mixed
reviews read it as having a political slant
i always tend to look for the beauty
of poetry art for arts sake ..
poetry and politics imo
don't quite mix well..

nice work Jacob

you're s o welcome;
and thank you..
An excellent poem Jacob. I disagree wholeheartedly with the other reviewers and their take on the value, meaning and substance of poetry. Poetry reflects our inner beings, our humanity, our daily lives, our relationships, our worldly and spiritual struggles and so forth. Some legend in his own mind thinks he is great writing stupid and childish poetry, then thinks he can teach or belittle other people's works. What a pity.
As you know, you are a master(in your own right) and everything you write has a great value in your beloved followers even if speaks about mundane things.
The ending of the poem is brilliant because it speaks about taking war(by war lovers) as an illicit lover or relationship).
Powerful and timeless sir Jacob.

So true sir. You are welcome.
I confess that when I read poems on this site I also read the comments that are already there. It seems that most readers take this poem as a status report on current events out in the world - as a reflection on the bad statistics caused by gun violence. The last line, however, says "the battlefield is amour" which seems to suggest that we're talking about victims of love. But, I guess the poem works on both levels. I, personally, prefer the one that doesn't get political. Art, in my view, can and should reach higher than current events, and express something of timeless truths, and/or see the unchanging patterns behind the changing façade.

Thank you for your kind review, and yes, politics never entered my mind when writing this.
There's not alot of love out there that's for sure. Plenty of bullet tongues , yet alone ruptured hearts. Remember the Iove ins of the sixties? Those were the days my friend, Everybody loved everybody else. Or it seemed that way.

The news leans toward violence in this world because it seems to sell meanwhile peace is collecting dust on the shelves.
