matters and old 45's

matters and old 45's

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

matters and old 45's

no shade left in my heart to give

leaves, clotted

                            dreams

entrenched in sidewalk coffins

trees do grow in other places

besides Brooklyn

Harlem veins

leaves, clotted

             stripped of dignity

           wither before a Bronx half-moon

transplanted roots

               still hold fast

concrete ledges where individuals

search for a reason the rain

          never nurtures them

it only defines "trouble"

as in a Credence Clearwater Revival song of the past

that is being consumed by the present.

but still recorded on the same label.

"Have you ever seen the Rain" comes to mind, when you said CCR. I love this write. So well said. Such a wonderful group, John Fogerty didn't do too bad on his own, But the group was awesome. Nicely written

No wonder music is often a circular recording disc . . . when all those tributes & tribulations keep spinning around again & again in life & over the decades (((HUGS)))

It’s amazing how one song can take us back to a particular activity or time or era in our past we feel it like it’s happening
Thank God for memory I say in this current world we need as many as we can recall

No probs 🌈
The old music is as good now as it was back then. I can't say that about life. Somehow "the world is my oyster feeling", got lost on the way. There is plenty of shade these days. That's how your poem speaks to me J.

Have you ever seen the rain by CCR. John Fogerty's haunting melody still resonates today. My uncle Johnny used to play it on an old record player spinning that vinyl 45. The song is actually one of my favorite of the band. I so enjoy the many journeys your poetry always takes me on, J. It is art at its purity, my friend.
