Maze

Maze

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Maze

and the students all bowed their heads

and prayed for intellectual stimulation

not boring fermentation

or electrocution of mind

bodies writhe at desks

in false buoyancy

of the efficacy

of the intricacy

of so many words spewed

in lewd disappreciation

and awkward enunciation

of the dictation

notes

are never "aye" votes

for devoted students

to amass

from the crass

individuality

of unbecoming behavior

When the Savior

is a teacher

lost

in his own mind.

so relatable, jacob! it took me a long time to appreciate the "learning" experience .. i was so very lost and having an educator who is also floundering is no aid at all. ... you, as a professor of English have a birds eye view ... creative writing can be elusive .. how do you "teach" inspiration?? how do you inspire individuality of "voice" while simultaneously grounding students in the classics??? I couldn't wait to get out of High School ... i struggled through College the first time because .. well ... i had no clue as to what i was doing there aside from advice of me respected elders ... the next time around i knew what i wanted ... jumping through the hoops to get there didn't seem as big a deal ;) great subject matter sir! the setting and scene invited me to "sit in" on the class ...

I would love to be in one of your classes. I would get carried away by the enthusiasm of your devotion to your craft.

If you have unruly students, they do not appreciate either the subject matter or you. Is the teacher doing himself down here I ask myself? I like the title. Lost in the maze of one's own mind.
