Ashes in Fashion

Ashes in Fashion

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Ashes in Fashion

one day,

exhume my body

of work,

of words incinerated

without exception

the trail of smoke

wordplay into skywriting

some piece of me that mattered

and found a parcel of precision

extracting thoughts

and buried them on white paper tombs

to lie in state

statements of life's grind

meant to find

the extravagant themes

of a procession of dreams

which might become

shattered flames of tiny candles

that once burned with purpose.

Your words should live on paper in books forever.

You are welcome.
dear Jacob… we spend our lives trying to be presentable and kind and tolerant. To prepare for our next life is a choice in our mind. I would rather feel that our Spirit lives on. Every baby is born with a phenomenal Spirit and integral brain cells … and on and on through our entire amazing Body. Our ability to Reason and feel deep emotion. I would prefer to believe that there is a Spirit World. I admire the Complexity of your Mind and I love ❤️ to have this Conversation with you. gently, Pat

Like in Star Wars there would be a hologram of you reciting your best works, possibly books in the future called the Chronicles of Jacob. :) A great write.

Let the Wookie read the book first!

thank you, andrew,

Well, this one says it for all of us, not just poets. We dream, we do what we can, but it all ultimately on this plane ends up as dust and ashes. I believe, though, that's not what really matters. I can't prove it, but I believe somehow, in some way, our having given it our best counts in the greater scheme of things. To reflect the best, however dimly, unites us with the best.

I agree with all you say here, and appreciate you, Sir,

I would like to think my greatest poem came through ten minutes before I died. The great rush to get it down on paper, alas failing to finish said unpublished work due to the hospital declining my credit card.
What an epitaph. In saying that, once you're online, only the end of human existence will get you off it.

Love this reply, thank you, Paul.

I can't help feeling that most poets would like their precious work to be read after their ashes have been scattered. That a part of them will live on after they have gone. I hope that my poems will be passed down through my grandchildren to their children and theirs, so they will be able to understand a little about great great grandma and the times during which she lived and the thoughts which were captured by her imagination.
