There will be No next book

There will be No next book

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

There will be No next book

I was a writer once,

but I quit,

so why am I still punching the keys

like a fighter past his prime

or the "Old Man and the Sea"

rubbing sharks the wrong way

dragging Merlin the Marlin behind his boat

because even Merlin the Magician

couldn't hocus pocus his words to appear

again,

I smell blood,

so why am I still punching the keys

the sharks will find me

probably before the end of the first round

or

maybe in the hat with the rabbit.

very tight fit...thank you, Dave,

I find the best before date is a date that ever changes depending on my mood, how cold it is or a number of ever changing reasons, but all you need is a bit more effort in the hope that our words speak to others. It's either that or going back to alphabetti spaghetti when nurse thatched takes away my crayons.
Trust the one guy who should to come up with that title too! 😊

Writers only voice are the words the flow inside them waiting to be written down to become alive. They thrive inside the mind deep into the soul. Nice expression ;-]

writers have no past the prime
so you might as well rethink
the ink and not quit ..you're
addicted to the written word
Ink flows is the life force
flowing through your veins
writing is the air writers
breathe..if you quit you
wither and die..

I probably would at that, Fran, probably would at that.

Can you quit, jacob? Can you stop teaching? Will you cede the reins to someone with little or no imagination or only teaches because he/she liked the idea of good long breaks! Even your post stating '( quit' is a drama , a mystery.. and even now its existence is alive. You name titles and names and.. and... so how can you shrug off a wonderful past. deny self and others the chance to fly over the mountains far, far away.. Can you? Take care, keep safe and don't you dare quit!! :)

I absolutely adore and relate to this! So many times I've contemplated quitting writing and I'm still a bit in that mindset. Every idea seems unoriginal, so hard to get past certain points, and yet we keep writing anyways. I believe a writer's off days are very much different than others. Writing requires so much focus, so much work, and so much attention and we really beat ourselves up if we don't finish a book in say, a month or so! It's okay to have off days, but I don't think we can ever truly quit, because you're words uplift and mean everything to one person I believe, even if you don't know it. Thank you so much for sharing and please keep doing so! (:

We can quit writing j. but writing won't quit us. The Muse may take the odd vacation but watch out when she gets back.
As for Merlin he could conjure something out of nothing ... musta been a helluva writer.

Good one.
