Double Beds and Free HBO

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Double Beds and Free HBO

i left my heart on
for her
she stayed cheap
and only for two nights

checked out on me
early the third morning

the maid found innuendos
lies
and empty pizza boxes

in the clutter
i was charged for the damage

and my key card absconded

now the entry
is forever locked

and i am in the parking lot
watching warily
for cars
and sly smiles
that sluice into my vein

where i once left my heart on
for her.

so sorrrry....you are so good with imagery Jacob and this poem has some sadness and a sense of humour. Get out of the parking lot now and go find some other place

thank you for your kind words, andrew,

I like the ending
"where I once left my heart on for her"

oh those cheap motels
They leave much to be desired
in more ways than one.
and the messes left behind
tell the story so vividly

Nice work Jacob

You are welcome.
If you do a continual Motel 6, you're likely to rent to a few absconders now and then.

Love that word, "absconders"----

This kind of sparks an image of city exec crossing the borough and finding paid love wherever he can get it but he's not doing too well. ha

Always and intersting poem from you, J.

"I left my Heart in San Francisco... high on a Hill...
where little Cable Cars climb halfway to the Stars"...
I prefer the view outdoors when Chances are more secure.
"Leaving your Heart On" is a perfect Title for a Country Song.

if only I were more country...well, I am getting there.

Cheap hotels with hearts being left behind when one sneaks out on you. Sounds like a night that many of us have experienced. The younger years can be cruel on the heart and our minds don’t think properly.

Shameful that there was no pizza left for you

not even one little slice...plain cheese would have sufficed.

And that is a terrible tragedy that you didn’t even get in me slice 😔
A cheap hotel and free wi fi. Dear Jacob, it seems she enjoyed the pizza before she cruelly checked out on you on the third morning leaving your heart in the doldrums. You can rest assured you won't have been the only one to experience this. Cheap hotels probably see this all too often. The sly smiles a give away.

She probably would have done the same in a five star. Upgrade of company needed :)
Well, at the minimum, at least you had access to free HBO. It may not be a substitute for the heartbreak, but given I myself was once considering staying in a 5 star Hilton only to discover that the wifi (in this day and age!) was being charged as an extra, at a premium rate, for each day of stay.....that free HBO sounds mighty enticing! Maybe some pizza and a binge watch of The Sopranos will heal the pain. Nice to read you again, Jacob. Well conceived as always. 💛
