Arc

Arc

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Arc

i am an old leaf
aging with attachments
to a branch of service
enlistment in love

October color
veins drying up
it's orange time

then falling time
then acceptance into the arms
of the deep dark ground

remember my green days
i shaded you once.

This sounds like the lament of a tree in Autumn, beautiful and sad.

You are always welcome, jacob. I love reading your writing.
This is a creative way to talk about aging and when the time of completion comes remember the times when you once were vibrant and green.

Well done with the imagery of the tree and the changing of the leaf. Creative

thank you for your kind words, brother Bunny.

An arc infers a cycle. That means that come spring, new leaves will appear. Perhaps we are not single leaves after all, but part of endless arcs.

I really think we are...endless.
thank you as always for your philosophical reply.

i really like this. right from the get-go i felt myself curled up and aging. i knew that change was in store.

reminds me of -
"Summer passes into autumn in some unimaginable point of time, like the turning of a leaf." - Thoreau

not all change is bad. we would not have the blaze of color if not for the inevitable fall. the cycle of life. acceptance, moving on, putting things to bed. great one j. ugh - just don't ask me to rake them up ... :)

Raked enough in my time too, Pete.

visually impact full and eloquently spoken. I totally understand how that leaf feels. In the twilight of my years I can feel my color dim as well. I am in the fall season of life reminiscing of my greener days. With a smile. Thank you for this wonderful work, Jacob, I am touched by its beautiful message.

Leaf not lead. Hate spell checks on phones.

Very clever as the norm. J. You may turn up as a pressed lead in a book.:). Seriously. Lovely metaphors.

The above lines could stand alone. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts. We are like a old willow trees. Easily forgotten and still needed.
