Surgical Keys

Surgical Keys

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Surgical Keys

the real and
the surreal
banter boxing
knockout punching
aliases

ailing writer
in contagious state
of debriefing
denuding
prosperous spontaneity

ruptures the recipient
who exits premises
in dark despair
mundane voices
echo in deranged drips

a lyrical leak
a tainted lullaby
a sordid, sad goodbye
an expendable subject
to harsh verbs

the sentence a plethora
of painfully palpable
protrusion
the synchronized sutures
operate at once

we've lost another
on the table
of disrespect.

I'll take ten cases of harsh verb grenades, but hold the surreal Jacob. I mean, even for me, who enjoys the occasional day trip to the surreal seaside, this place is starting to look a bit too much like Munch's scream!

I'm thinking this may have to do with one we've lost lately. Excellent poem, J.

thank you, Relic,

The medical symbolism represents the outcome of searing words here. Somehow "banter boxing" got out of hand, and the recipient, a lady, I presume, exited in despair. Those harsh verbs will do it every time. The last lines announce the verdict. Back to square one.

thank you for your insightful words, John,

This for me reflects how words have a cutting edge and some wounds are fatal driving poets away like on WC by undesirables.
