A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Please Don't Read this

I'd like to write a decent poem

but I have caught the need to rhyme

no medicine can undo the ragged verse

I've developed the curse

the end words have to match

content destroyed with dispatch

rhyme me a reason to keep on scribing

too much form I've been imbibing

this group of couplets demanding

I stick a clean landing

To score a ten on the poetic scale

save me please, I have gone off the rail

I'd like to write a decent poem

substance abuse deems the need to atone.

I'd like to write a decent poem

I'd like to write a decent poem

I'd like to write a decent poem

I'd like to write a decent poem

the end.

This is what happens when you turn British.
You'll be telling people you're going up the apple and pears now. Stairs.
That guy owes you a monkey. 500 pounds.
It's all down hill from here now I'm afraid.

I think my down hill roll is gaining speed.
Thank you for the apple and pears...I needed some.. read more
Just like a big red emergency button that says DO NOT PUSH, that inner child with the devil on his shoulder whispering Push It, I clicked.
More addictive than crack, it hits with a smack
and once you are wasted, and rhyming you have tasted.
It won't let you return, to the bridges you burn
You will scream out in pain, unless you just ignore it and end, with a really long sentence that might affect the overall look of the piece but I promise no one will notice 😊

I like your poem better than mine...thank you, Lorry,
j.
Forgive me please, I read it
but I see no need to edit
if you write a decent poem
maybe you should walk it home
pat its shoulder...hold its hand
you two could make one last stand

but only if you write a decent poem
but only if you write a decent poem

the need to write a decent poem has plagued a lot of us I'm sure ... now, if you'll excuse me, perhaps I'll write an indecent poem. ;>}

I look forward to your indecent poem...
let me at least put on my robe before I read it.

I've been on a ghastly rhyming roll lately, so I know exactly what you mean. As much as I hate all the tout about free verse, most readers respond to my poems in a more heartfelt way when I write free verse (when I can resist the mighty pull of flippant raunchy rhyming shtick). Rhyming can be an addiction & since addictions are mindless, it's not the right way to be seized, poetically (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Disagree (((HUGS)))
This is a wonderful poem, and one that I think every writer should read. When we get this way we think we're all alone facing these problems, but we are not. All of the times I have tried poetry have been like this, which is why I now mainly write short stories.

Yes, perhaps I should go back to writing short stories..thank you for sharing, Kaylor.
j.
a nice take on writers block
I'm sure we all know of this frustration
Perhaps a decent poem would come from what you attribute as the cause
A hard hitter on substance abuse perhaps
I've seen your work
You write many decent and beyond poems
