I'm guessing you feel much as I do. People see the constant stream of poetry we spill, thinking we never run out of gas, but I feel out of gas all the time. Cafe writers are my gas. I have almost nothing on my mind until I come here & read everyone else's concerns, spiels, & witticisms! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I think you are pulling a fake news poem here, Jacob! You are more of a Dodge Charger than a Ford pickup truck in the poetry 500, though i will admit those exit ramps can be enticing when things get dull and the muse takes up knitting instead. Just keep the engine well lubricated and I am sure you will still stay speeding on the poetic Route 66. Great metaphor here and one that is very relatable for me. :))

inspiration slows down as we get older, we are not as spontaneous, but quality improves and its quality not quantity that counts. So although the journey slows it doesn't end by any means.....

After watching and hearing Amanda Gorman at your new president's inauguration ceremony, would imagine a would be poet ~ which you certainly are NOT, dear j., would give up trying to make poetry!
However, perhaps her language will inspire people to try for literary flight, speed, movement in hopeful freedom? Going for 'it', finding the way, creating a route. Am inclined, rightly or wrongly to think we're having to climb out of that box in a box the pandemic and world problems have stuffed us into... emotions diluted maybe? If anyone can show us how to pick up speed, it's you and of course, some of the brilliant others in here.
Your use of metaphors and what could be said similar, is incredible!

"But I have promises to keep/And miles to go before I sleep/And miles to go before I sleep." This one seems to echo Frost's meaning. Don't let those exits become too tempting. They're dead ends.

I need a clear mind and strong coffee to write Jacob.
"But I still have some driving to do,
and the engine still has some miles on it,
so now junkyard for this dog"
Lately I have been writing story and poetry in my dreams. Like your above lines. I have more to write my friend. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry and your thoughts.

I felt this. I am running on empty at the moment., though not ready for the junkyard. I don't think I am alone either.
