at Heaven's Gait

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

at Heaven's Gait

i found my soul on a leaf
stuck to the sole of my shoe
and i ran wild
trying to shake it from its pause
the tread wore through
i was through

and in passing the finish line
there was still that leaf
my imprinted soul on sole

and i
the sole poet on the block

eyes peering out windows
would like to tell me they see it
flapping by step

stepping on the flap
of my conscience

the sole of my soul
in pause

endings aren't always mutual.

I love your wordplay esp with "sole/soul" . . . I'm reminded of walking along trying to scrape a big hot wad of dog crap off my shoe . . . which is exactly how many of us are feeling as the last 9 days of exodus theatrics tick down. I don't see this happening with too many politicians (in an authentic believable way), tho: "stepping on the flap of my conscience" (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

thank you for your kind review, Margie,
j.
Sometimes the journey of our soul isn't what we want it to be, thus we don't accept it by fighting or ignoring the road, but no matter what, the soul will take us to its track, no matter what... we are just wasting our time but not accpeting it and even more with an open heart, not easy when there is pain and sorrow, but I do believe that deep down the Soul knows it must go through it, as Your soul did and still know dear Jacob the poet. I don't know anyone yet who can create words the way You do. yes, it's " Heaven's Gait".

Souls on soles surely slip and slide.
Step sideways sailor
there's always room for more.
Sequences and consequences
consecrated nuances
kneeling ... feeling in truth
"endings aren't always mutual".

No matter how hard we try, there's no escaping the Soul Train.
Good one j.
