12 degrees of separation this morning

12 degrees of separation this morning

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

12 degrees of separation this morning

a seldom loved heart

finds solitude in crowds

of briskly moving minds

that never understand the potency

of their shunning

the shear cunning of their ways

a seldom loved heart

suffers the duress

emotions undress

ride naked through the thoroughfare

with Godiva impetuousness

a consciousness

of detachment

the horse neighs to no one near

a seldom loved heart

clings to the saddle

riding into death

wearing nothing but a smile.

Love this one! I think most of us go through life with "a consciousness of detachment". The end especially hits home. I get a feeling of vulnerability, exposing one's self in poetry is a little bit like "riding naked through the thoroughfare". Not sure if that's what was intended, but nice work!

Thank you for your words...I feel poems belong to .. read more
With a smile he parted
beneath quiet reserve
how few knew too
for their mirrors
are painted over
with spilt blood
from other days
yet he sees
in other ways.

thank you for your words, Valormore.
j.
a very poignant piece
one can feel the
detachment the aching
within each line.the unloved
heart feeling the sting of
emptiness and loneliness
stripped bare to their very
core of being ..sad and so
well expressed ..

Hello Jacob and you are welcome.
Oh wow j. This is amazing. I’m sorry it took me so long to get to this one because this one deserves a read by everyone here and those that just visit. This is one of those poems that poets say “I wish I wrote this” cuz I wish I wrote this!

Oh and Wayne loved this one too, which is saying something cuz he is hard to impress 🤗
DearJacob, this ride was painful to read. I felt the detachment here while surrounded by a crowd. Lady Godiva rode naked through the streets of Coventry to defy her rich husband in her support of many ordinary poor folk who were having to fork out increased taxes. It is said that bystanders turned their backs to preserve her modesty, so loved was she. There is so much in this poem and it certainly pulls on the heart's emotions in many ways. Imagery laden and emotive. Reminds us how easily we can be hurt by the indifference of people and also how thoughtful some can be. Lovely work here.

dearest Jacob... this one is actually my favorite of yours;
at this particular stage in life, I seem separated from people
and yet connected. It is like Lady Godiva riding through the Crowd feeling impetuous...
my favorite moments are hearing a Horse neigh... the danger of being in it's way...
giving the horse Apples sweet as new mowed hay.. .
then the Horse laid down and rolled over like a puppy dog.
Yes, I will leave this World with a mischievous smile. gently, Pat

I think most of us have ridden in this saddle at some time in our lives.
The hiding behind false smiles and the feeling of not belonging can be so debilitating.....

Like "Kilroy", I too was here and I have been here...just like nearly everyone I can think of. I guess that's why we call it life.

and as Elton sang, "I guess that's why they call it the blues"
thank you, Chris,

Loneliness (and self-consciousness about this?) described vividly like a living nightmare. Almost too painful to read ...
