America the Beautiful

America the Beautiful

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

America the Beautiful

muscle cars
empty bars

hotels with too many vacancies
room service suspended

drinks are outside of the house
people are inside their fever

burning rubber
towards heaven

they weren't warned of last call
and the "do not disturb" signs

were ripped off their doors
by angry maids

who are jobless
then penniless
then toothless

starving

living

in muscle cars
their lives suspended

thank you for your kind review, Rosie,

Jacob, your words paint a true and deplorable picture of how America’s people are suffering at the hands of power-mongers. It just seems to be never -ending. The poor get poorer, the sick get sicker and the blind eyes refuse to see. Every staccato line and metaphor in this poem cuts to the heart and the soul of America.-“jobless..penniless..toothless..starving”- all boxes checked in sorrow. “Living.. in muscle cars...their lives suspended”- all boxes checked in despair. But tyrants must eventually fall and now vaccines bring a glimmer of hope. Those are my most sincere Thanksgiving wishes this year...

Yes, such a different Thanksgiving this year.
thank you for your words, Annette,

Depicts the world we live in now until a vaccine saves the day! A lot of good people have put their lives at risk to help others. A sad situation I do wonder if Trump would have had a second term if covid didn't happen.

I think the reality series has run its course, and not sure if it would have been renewed or not.read more
The knock on effect of the virus. Huge damage to the economy and loss of jobs on a mammoth scale. Huge numbers of deaths and still there are the idiots who think it's all a conspiracy and that it's no worse than a dose of flu. Telling it like it is and it's going to get worse.

A bleak look at some of the casualties of Covid-19. So many people in the service industry are out of work. We just had more cruises canceled. I am not sure how the cruise lines can stay afloat....no pun intended. The servers, bartenders, housekeepers in restaurants and hotels have lost their jobs....and so many people have lost their lives. It's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. We are the USA....we should be better than this. Lydi**

It’s hard accept what is happening and even harder to accept that people ignore it. We feel, see and write it just hoping one person will open their eyes, my friend-keep writing and we will keep hoping and of course I love this

I never cared that much for socializing so I can flourish in this environment. My old friend once said that I'd just write if they ever locked me away. But actually, I'm teaching from a computer. :)

I guess we can’t help writing about the misery of our country...it’s on our minds and ravaging our bodies; jobless and starving; what to do? Pray that Georgia wins two “Gold” seats! Fine poem, Jacob
