Something special about autumn. The fresh cool air, just giving a hint of the winter to come. The wild array of colorful leaves Leaves that are wind-blown as we drive past them, causing them to swirl in the air as though dancing. I like this very much.
Take care Dave

"in the cool breeze
of my childhood
we drove to where you stood mother in autumn your eyes approach the golden leaves
even now as breath
falls from you in maple design." Speaks of creating lucrative highway which one drives mentally of instead of making riches, its the powerful benevolent longing which consoles the heart of missing dearly too much for someone that was a colossal force in their life which gave them life. I feel a smile at the end looking back with such innocence and growing increasingly maudlin of such golden beauty ( A mother in Autumn) there's no place I rather be. You get that sentimentality which is very potent here. Keep writing this poem touched my heart. Sincerely your friend in writing and life.
I would be hard pushed to find a more moving poem in what is left of this autumn jacob ... and for what its worth, I have a similar image of my very own Mum that I treasure dearly and often find myself talking to ... I also find it helps :)

yes, it does help, Neville,
thank you for understanding,

A memory that feels so real, her name is called out...for a moment the mind forgets time and there she is in all her glory....this is a wonderful poem dear Jacob!
Your poem paints the picture in your mind so clearly that we can easily see it . . . but I also see my own mom, often shuffling around many kids in most photos . . . an iconic symbol of how we each have this picture in our minds, an amalgamation of many browning black-and-whites with 50's & 60's dates stamped on the front (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This is a truly beautiful poem. I have a photo fixed firmly in my mind of a young woman in front of a maple tree, but your lines could also be metaphorical. The tree itself could be a mother in autumn. Your final line is truly touching. It speaks to me of a special moment and a mother much missed. Lovely work

Yes, a woman in front of a maple tree, but much more...thank you,

This conjured for me an old photograph of a woman astride her old bike in fifties coat and hat looking at the camera as the bike rests between her legs. A mother perhaps remembered as autumn leaves shed like tears.
