Perfect description of how a photograph can transport us back when it happened, when the man becomes the boy he used to be again and the world isn't nearly as complicated. Perfectly captured.. Excuse the pub.

Old photos can indeed evoke memories even after many decades have passed. The poet here looks upon a picture of his mother in 1957. It may have been taken in autumn, but I think what is being communicated is that she was in middle age then. The golden leaves mentioned probably refer to old age, which she was approaching. The breath falling from her means the gradual ebbing of life that is an inescapable part of aging; the cool breeze of childhood represents the poet's own aging process. The last line is very poignant, showing that love does not die.

Time freezes in photographs and the memory. I also sometimes go through the old albums only to revive the past memories and relive them once again. This poem is so touchy....
