Sparks and Embers

Sparks and Embers

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Sparks and Embers

staring flippantly

at the wind,

my heart on fire for you

something is spreading,

a flame touches skin

i am consumed by you

as the wind dies down

and orange dancers look for rest

i put the music in my matchbook memory

and move on,

no longer myself

just a flicker left of you

dearest Jacob... when I light candles at home...
I am reminded of how powerful a flame can be.
I delicately touch fire to wick and passion smoke
invades the solemn stillness of the quaint atmosphere
where the troubles of the day dissipate into the
memories of days long ago. tenderly, Pat

thank you for your words, yes, a flame can be so powerful...

This was awesome. The wording was great and visualized everything in your head and painted such a clear picture. I hope you keep writing because this was a great piece! The element of fire throughout it added more depth to it also, and the build-up and then the 'orange dancers' leaving really put an impact on the words.

thank you again for your very kind words, Colacat.

"orange dancers" has got to be one of the best images flames that I have ever come across.

I can very much identify with the "heart on fire for you" and the "consumed by you" parts.

The tricky bit for me is when I am to "move on."
I am slave to the flame...

Love this poem!

thank you for your kind review, Laz, K.
And we knowingly remember our own embers that once danced with passions fury, before they were smothered so effectively by the fickle snap of fates fingers. Or was it that unseen uppercut that made the last few sparks fly and disappear in the darkness? I can't for the lifeof meremember 😀

I think it was the uppercut...no defense.

Really like the use of wind as a metaphor for love / interest as the fuel that stokes desire.

Wow. This is beautiful! I love how your words moved as swiftly as the fire you speak of!

I don't now Jacob, embers can still start a forest fire... perhaps when we write about embers, the sparks are still there... maybe .... perhaps.... well one thing for sure, embers can still burn so don't go poking around too deeply... and stay away from any bellows that might be laying around.... ;0) lol.... unless we have made a fire that lasts, I think all we have is embers.... but one more thing Jacob, your poetry is always on fire...

This was me in my youth . . . only seeing the flame flaring with bright passion, but not able to sustain my interest for the long boring stretches of real life together. I believe dogs are better companions for the drudgery. They make drudgery so much fun! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

yes, dogs are...and for me...cats.
Listening to music brings back the heat of lost love. The flames reignite and then when unattended die down to become embers again. Never dead, just embers. Beautiful poem Jacob. Deeply felt.
