the man downstairs

the man downstairs

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the man downstairs

insincere lighting

moon dance upon scuffling eyes

they want to vacate the premises

rather than give away secrets

the brow is raised

lies' acceptance

a tenant refusing to leave

shadows are eloquent

red herrings

but the day will soon come.

You really stir the thought processes with this one Jacob. These days there is so many forms that "eviction" can take - this leaves much to the reader's imagination. Thanks for waking up the thought muscles.

Take care - Dave

thank you for exercising them, my friend,

I see this as a pending eviction. A lone tenant in the basement discovered unexpectedly. They'll be back. Another one to add to the ever growing homeless. Sad situation.

A thinker here. Perhaps a conundrum of a poem? I see two visions; first someone being evicted for non payment of rent and being ejected by a rogue landlord who claims to want to redevelop the property. Secondly someone who has reached a point when they simply wish to check out and is awaiting death.
You do give us food for thought Jacob, always!

Homelessness in California has taken pendemic proportions. It is a scary and humbling situation. I always think, this could be me...
