the day after

the day after

 

yesterday i was thankful

today i am remorseful, vengeful

pitiful

leftover regret

undigested

 

kicked the stuffing out of

my heart

 

and left me 

dressing the wound

with a grimace

but no solace

 

no dessert

deserved

or feelings 

preserved

 

dinner ended

you ended

 

and we ran out of napkins

to wipe the tears

off our lips.

Now that is a depressing Thanksgiving poem!!! You should have come to my house, we would have started with cocktails, and after dinner karaoke...maybe that would have fixed things.

Oh it was spot on...so many in my family went places and had bad days, especially with the current political climate. I stayed out of the fray, left town and came home happy!!

The trouble withese these days after, is there is always going to be another day after, and then after that day after too.
Its not the most desirable destination to find yourself in. Those kicks to the heart don't get any easier to take, no matter how many you have taken, and took.
We should really just rename love, future brain-Heart-Soul damage.

Get-togethers should come with a health warning, it just takes that one stray word, you know, that one.
I just tell people to go through my P.A. My P.A now tells the same people to go through her P.A.
To think Christmas is just around the corner, maybe time to look out the keys for the Fallout shelter.

References here to Thanksgiving and that day when we should count our blessings for what we have. Short lived here. The day after brings a taste of what we aren't thankful for. Past hurts linger. That taste of turkey replaced by something not nearly as savoury. I felt this one Jacob. It had a bitter after taste.
