Praying for Disturbance

Praying for Disturbance

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Praying for Disturbance

argument me

i feel derision

in your non-committal demeanor

in your callous stare

in your apathetic one-word response

i need you to

argument me

allow me my rebuttal

love is a radio station in static salaciousness

argument me

so that i know

we have feelings,

not just blasé numbness

and contrasting silence

i have loved you

in an essay's definition

in an essay's comparison

in an essay's persuasion

but my thesis is vacillating

my poems have no direction

no clear statement

just a shrug of the pen

argument me

we need life.

If confrontation or indifference is all there is.. peace in your time is no-go. Is right to talk things out, with calm and respect if at all possible.. but the big loser is indefinite argument and vindictiveness
that shows what was never intended but merely a game. How sadly but well said your poem..

'my poems have no direction
no clear statement
just a shrug of the pen -

argument me

we need life.

thank you for bringing this one back to the surface with your comments, em.

every relationship has a dry spell,
communication is important but so is giving someone their space..
I believe if the love is strong enough it can quench any barren phase...
interesting read

i like your metaphoric reply better than the poem itself.
thank you, Manya,

So many people in relationships avoid arguments...maybe we should perceive this form of communication as an opportunity to learn something new or to know someone better. If you really desire an argument j., just nudge me online with something provocative worthy of an argument, but you're so enjoyable it's difficult to disagree with you.

thank you for your kind words, Cassie,

Well as Fall Out Boy sings in a song, arguments are like "Goddamn armsrace"s as we "stockpile weapons in the form of words"
It ain't a scene, it's an armsrace! Quite possible one of my favorite Fall Out Boy song

I love the way you phrase that - "argument me". Haven't really heard that before, it's quite compelling. Almost like the way you would command someone to "notice me". Taking this a step further, I feel like the poem reflects the ultimate key to a relationship's existence: communication. Even if you're arguing constantly, at least there's a response to your words, a retaliating emotion to your animated projection, another physical presence acting in the space around you to get something across to you. But when there's no communication at all, even if it's considered a neutral standpoint, there's just no relationship there. You literally cease to exist as anything but a wishful thought in the mind. Well written!

I think sometimes when we have disagreements with our significant other it actually helps the passion grow.

I like this. I've learned the opposite of love isn't hate at all. In fact, the two emotions can be closer than we dare imagine at times. The opposite of love is indifference. Not caring at all. You bring the point to clarity here, seeking the passion that makes us actually FEEL something. It reminds me of that Billy Joel song, Honesty...
"Honesty is such a lonely word
Everyone is so untrue
Honesty is hardly ever heard
And mostly what I need from you"

i think indifference is worse than anything....thank you for your words, Fabian,

i don't know Jacob lol , i hate arguments. Of course enforced silence is even worse as your frustration of it tells.
I think in extreme cases this can lead to violence you know ... better to have it out and be done with..

Silence - silence isn't golden. You're so right. Words, any words are better than the sound of silence.
To expect and hope for words of love - too much?

Take care - Dave
