Duct tape (and wire-ties) fix most broken things, but everything leaves marks, even bandages. So true, especially with broken relationships. I've come to believe a cease-fire is not the worst thing, even with fresh scars. Good write, J.
Hey Erin,
I've missed your work, as usual another interesting well penned piece. This is something I can relate with in my life and I think so many can. I have a special appreciation for the direct yet poetic usage in this. I only found one question in it's ending. It seemed like the writing describes the pain of a relationship gone way south but that had found a better place, the very last line left me feeling that the "truce" was more necessity than desire, did I take that last line wrong? Glad to see you're still here.

I get taking personal meaning and truths from the art we take in it's what makes it art and not just history or fact. I always like to in addition of having a personal understanding have the true intent. I find sometimes knowing the intent of the writing helps me in opening my perspective more with future reads and my own writing. Thanks for the mystery. Better to live in uncertainty than with the absurdity of certainty.

Indeed, emotions can become shrapnel, even Bouncing Betty castration mines. It sounds as though in this one, however, that a cease fire was arranged and peace has been declared. Yes, forgiveness and duct tape both take care of many ills.
In the words of that famous Canadian philosopher ... Red Green ... Duct tape; the handyman's secret weapon.
Sometimes they are terrorists and other times freedom fighters ... just depends on which side of the argument you landed. They attack the heart and leave you to crawl into that dark room to lick your wounds.
Your soft-spoken placating poem shows the difference between a sweet forgiving tolerant person like yourself, making light of lingering scars & bloodstains . . . and an intolerant b***h like me who considers vistas choked with detritus of battle to be a deal-breaker! *wink! wink!* (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Wow, thinking on how long the duct tape will hold before the truce ends and the warfare restarts. That is what you call living on a knife edge. Not a good place to be Jacob. Living with the enemy
Man, but that duct tape gives after a while and it seems your back to square one. I've been married quite some time and sometimes I wonder why the conflict has to flare up at the worst times. Say that five times fast. No, she's awesome, I think maybe I could use some of that duct tape and put it right over my mouth. Now that would start the beginning of a peace treaty. Ha. Great work as always. I tip my hat to you good sir.
