starting a brush fire

starting a brush fire

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

starting a brush fire

write me blind,

fingers search for the key

to your memory

feeling their way through years of tears

and more than one October's

leaf of grief

seasons turn

as you turned on me

i couldn't see your heart

through the deafening foliage

i could only hear your bitter bonfire

of vanity's inception

the blue tipped flames

stinging with cold reserve

as i went up in your smoke

and you were arrested

for burning hearts

when the tears had dried up

and

an order of restraint

issued.

You are the pope of emotional poetic exorcism. I read your words and think "oh yeah, he knows!" Its there in all its rawness. It's there, it strikes you, then it leaves the body. Your words are the ashes that rise up, float away, feeds the soil of another field. Great stuff, jacob.

In looking back over my life, I don't regret anything. The highs and lows, the ups and downs, the ebbs and flows, the heartache and heartbreak … they are all fuel for the fire … the ashes of life if you will. Life cuts but it's the cuts that make you shine. Your voice is like leather - soft, pliant, amenable, dependable, luxurious, and ever-lasting. It's quality every time.

thank you for those very, very kind words, Linda...

It is quite unfortunate to experience such heartbreak
The positives I see here lie in the language you have used in reference to this sorry event
ie; October's 'leaf of grief' and most especially, 'deafening foliage'
Those are beauties!
Hoping for a full recovery

Heartbreaking and beautiful. Some scars fade, but some, are more prominent with time.I wonder which one is a burnt heart. Lovely work Jacob.

Another October approaches. An anniversary of when it all went horribly wrong. When love left like leaves on an autumn tree, to be burned as though it had never been. How painful that must have been. I got the distinct feeling that after a period of adjustment, and no chance of a reconciliation, a change of feeling altogether. More a warning "" keep your distance, leave me alone ". Great metaphors here Jacob. My interpretation, of your lines.

perfect timing ... leaves are falling ... ozone air sparks memories .. and some leaf burning for sure .. this season its still fairly hydrated and i don't think a ban will be pronounced ;) what i like about the burn is that i can rake it over the weeds ... sometimes burning them down to the root :) we have a ton of leaves and i burn in the spring and fall .. this past spring i unwittingly faced the heat too boldly and it actually distorted the scratch coating on me glasses ... go figure .. lesson learned ;}
