A little girl squeezes her stuffed bunny because she loves him so much, and she squeezes him to death. We have to hold on softly so as not to suffocate. If the other doesn't feel the same, they simply never will. It's best to let them go, to retreat into the harbor of the heart.

thank you for your insightful comment, Linda Marie,

A crush left crushed? Words are wonderful but actions speak louder and more likely to be heard.
It feels a heart poured out but no one drank the love. Maybe they didn't know it was offered or it wasn't the right flavour? I do like the poem and how it makes me wonder.

Oh my you wear your tender heart on your sleeve here Jacob. That hand grenade my friend was a killer. I took the blast, she didn't feel a thing. War is ugly and so is love when it goes wrong. Brilliant writing.
I love it, love can have such a huge impact on us emotionally, and we fight that war ourselves most of the time. "a hand grenade heart / exploding in your direction" that is a great image and definitely grabs your reader. This poem was so universal it was easy to get drawn in, nice work.
How odd this is that what love can do to one and at the same time other can't even sense it. "My hand grenade heart exploding in your heart and you didn't hear a thing" so beautiful and so true.
Well written
I did like the below lines.
"my war was over before it started
my retreat
an anomaly"
I do understand the above lines. Sometimes, we cannot win. Thank you Jacob for sharing the amazing poetry.
