A beauty of a poem, really. I’m not normally a reader or lover of love poetry, but I really found myself getting invested in this the further I read. There are layers to the story that make the couple compelling to me.
I love the way the natural world and the inner, enclosed world of the love collide to make a sense of wholeness. I wish I could write love poetry like this, but I’m too cynical. Ah, well. That’s why I love reading. Always great to be surprised.
Excellent work, Jacob. Your last stanza gave me chills. Very good.

' .. and the landscape between us - - is the only one that will matter.. our temperate climate.. shall grow Roses in the snow. '
Between some hearts there is forever warmth, whether together or apart. There's an incredible awareness that whatever.. there's that special someone waiting to share. Had times when needed something, anything.. to remind me i'm not truly alone.. and found that if you think hard and long enough.. it's there, waiting, any season, any time. Sighing here, j.

All but the heart hibernates as the seasons bring us another harsh lesson of feeling and being in control are very different things.
Your end line conjures such a stark, yet beautiful image in my mind, giving hope to even the most frostbitten heart.
Having lately read historical novels reflecting the toughness of bygone days, I'm catching notes of a couple split by winter's harshness & unavoidable obligations making travel long & difficult . . . imagining the faith it must've taken to not worry yourself crazy when a loved one was gone longer than expected in bad weather. The intensity of the middle verse brings this to mind. I love how your title sounds & how it conjures up visual flutterings (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
I was snared by your title, then fell for your opening line..."the creek beds are chilling, autumn's warning."
I found an autumn leaf today, right outside my front door. There are only palm trees around me, so I'm not certain from whence it came.
I'm a winter person at heart, I think its in my DNA. I really love the feeling this one conjures up, Jacob. Nice work!

I attended a wedding a week ago, and this reminds me of some of the words spoken by the officiant. I remember words to the effect, "as long as you have each other, you will never know cold, nor fear the storm, etc." All things are bearable as long as you can bear them together with one that you live. This is one of your romantic writes, and it is beautiful.
