A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Poem

damn you,

cry me a river

the levee will hold

i have no sympathy for the devil

or you,

that current swept me up

in the us

of it all

but white caps hid black lies

and time incriminated the back waters

of your burnt bridges

now no one wants to cross

on you,

for you,

or with you

damn you

go ahead pour with the vain rain

of unhappiness,

i will wave at you in my kayak

river rafting past

your bleak paradise

holding on tight

to what dignity

i have left.

The Julie London reference hooked me. The vitriol is palpable in this caustic allegory as the protagonist rebounds in anger at rejection. Powerful!
