Your first verse made me smile, because I gravitated more towards writing shorter pieces than composing longer ones. The right state of mind, indeed, is what one needs.

nah...it's a life's journey i think...for all of us...
but thanks,
j.
Do you really want to write an epic poem? I always remember the alliterative phrase my English Professor in college shouted at us, "Keep the poetry pithy, people....if you want to be published." The heart and mind must be in sync for good poetry whether short, long, or epic. Seems to me you have that down pat, my friend. Lydi**

love that "pithy" thing...
it's the process that counts most, isn't it?

I see you there gaining stride
And I turn it up with the finish insight
And hope a photo finish will show a tie.
I write poems...so says the poet...if I find the write state of mind.
Coffin alliances will be there...in the background...as will crushed hearts.
But it comes down to mind over matter...if you don't mind...it doesn't matter.
And so it always is. Sometimes the mind and sometimes the matter win out. Serious self-appraisal here j. No matter the length or the subject, your words astound us and draw us into you. You are your epic poem my friend.
