With apologies to Mendelssohn

With apologies to Mendelssohn

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

With apologies to Mendelssohn

inciting a heart to riot

kissing the signs walking in lines

cheeks blush with rebellion

standing skin to skin

voices heard,

in unison

as one

men in blue

witness

judge accedes

shots ring out

they falter

as bullets of mistrust

penetrate

and love bleeds

neither side knowing who started it

neither side cares

they are divorced of feelings

the cause diminished

the signs disappear

love ceases its march

as a nation of two weeps.

Love is a battlefield. A bloody one at that when it looses its essence. We can analyze the symptoms, but not fully understand the cause.

exactly....what is the cause? usually a flawed one...
thank you, Wondering Mind,
j.

this is terribly good sir as I am sure Mendelssohn would be obliged to concede... so no apology required...

Yes, he would have wished for more as composer of the Wedding March. There's a right war of words and sniper fire going on in this relationship. I'm left thinking, for goodness sake call a ceasefire. Truce, show the white flag. Felt the bullets here.

thank you for your insightful words, Chris...

Indeed civil war between two is a sad enough cause as love fractures. you take us through stanzas that are enlightening and evocative of love and war.
