ghost town

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

ghost town

i don't write poems because of you

i write poems because i write poems

you are the afterthought after all the other thoughts

have meshed together and blown away like tumbleweed

my words are the dust storm

that blows past the cactus

you are the thorns on the cactus

but my ink is dry as the desert

when it comes to you

i don't write poems because of you

so don't think this poem is about you

this is no "You're So Vain"

and i don't need Mick backing me up

to write this,

it isn't about you, about you, about you

i swear it's not

really....

about you.

Wonderful write, but the thorns are sharp like your open wounds dwelling inside each word ;-]

thank you for your kind words, Willow.

The speaker doth protest too much. The last verse gives it away. I would say the thorns on the cactus are still quite sharp.

ghost town. Of course it's about her except you don't want her to know it.
'You are the thorns on the cactus'.Of course it's about her. Like the song references. And your final stanza and the repetition. Yes it's all about her. Another great poem J.

But, no matter how you spin it...it is about her. Poets write poems and lost love seems to be a good subject.

A good write, j.

thank you, Ted..:)

Carly Simon wrote it, James Taylor, Warren Beattie and Mick Jagger lived it. Once more your mastery of the allegory brings the angst and deception of feelings to life as the protagonist denies what is obvious.

...yeah but she's so vain, she probably thinks this poem is about her. Dames. We're a dime a dozen. Don't let her go to your head like a cold in the dead of winter. ; )
