as we wrote it

as we wrote it

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

as we wrote it

summer of '67

the backseat expunged adolescent urges

and her hair smelled of heaven

at least a 17-year old's version

the grass was so green

it seemed envious of something---

maybe us

love flourishes in early years

even if it only lasts a season

but life has its reason

and endings are just portals to beginnings

and in fall

we find more reasons

to interpret the poetry of seasons

past

enlightened versions of ourselves

reach old age

immersed in memory

diving into days ago

now sitting in the front seat alone

but still smelling heaven

in our minds, and with our words

we'll always remain

in

the summer of '67

our forever version

of heaven.

Ah yes, I can relate to this one....heaven in the backseat of a car....or was it? We can remember all the smells, touches, colors, but I think we tend to forget the bad parts. It was all so exciting then. Would it still be with the same person? For me the answer is no, but I suppose for some it would be. The summer of '69 lives on in my mind....long may it do so! I liked this a lot. Lydi**

Being a 22 year old woman and experiencing so little of life makes me wonder what it will be like when I look back at my version of summer '67. An exciting thought to have as so many memories are yet to come into my life. Looking forward to the future where I will be reflecting on the past. Lovely read, Jacob!
