Courting

Courting

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Courting

disgruntled voices grimace

at the sight of incontinent words

written on their ears

by scatter brained detectives on a cold case

searching clues of leftover sanity

in a world that has become a crime scene

love, peace, equality all murdered

a hate crime

of misguided passion

for the green

by the mean

with the means

to wrap their words eloquently

in slight of mind tricks

we speak in battered tongue

poems of bleak vestige

we are witnesses

and victims all at once

and no jury will convict

because the high-profile lawyers

they can retain

will pilfer a not guilty verdict

from the connected twelve

who are now trapped

in their own gold world

ignoring the evidence

of a vast imbalance.

I'm not sure what has inspired this but you can feel the injustice in every line.

They say money cant buy you love, but it has been proved time and time again that it can seemingly buy freedom and it happens all the time, dont it just stick in the craw..... N

so true, thank you for your words, Neville,

This write beats like a drum. So much philosophy in every line, my favourites being all of the third and final stanzas. The vast imbalance is my absolute favourite metaphor, but it was hard to choose just one! The gold world is simple and lovely.

A stirringly somber piece that answers while continuing to ask. Thank you for sharing it with us, Jacob!!! Your work is consistently brilliant.:):)

thank you for your very kind review, Deb,

Reads as though an injustice has taken place. Someone as guilty as hell has been let off because clever lawyers can twist the truth and pick up a load of cash into the bargain. Money talks. It always has done and probably always will.

The trickery of the fast talkers. They can twist-up tale for a gold piece. I enjoyed your words and I wanted to know more. Thank you Jacob for sharing the amazing poem and your thoughts.
